Overview
Manali,
often dubbed the "Queen of Hills," offers a perfect blend of
adrenaline-pumping adventure, serene landscapes, and bohemian charm. This
2-night, 3-day itinerary is designed to take you beyond the typical tourist
traps, offering a holistic experience of this Himalayan gem. Your journey
bridges two distinct worlds: the vibrant, cafe-lined streets of Old Manali,
pulsating with youthful energy and live music, and the majestic, snow-capped
silence of the Solang Valley and Rohtang Pass. You will walk through ancient
cedar forests to pay homage to the patron deity at Hadimba Temple, cross the
engineering marvel of the Atal Tunnel to witness the stark beauty of Lahaul,
and soothe your travel-weary muscles in the natural sulfur springs of Vashisht.
From savoring hot Siddu (a local steamed bun) to navigating the bustling
Mall Road for souvenirs, this tour captures the essence of Manali—balancing
spiritual solace with high-altitude thrills, ensuring you leave with a piece of
the mountains in your heart.
Itinerary
Day
1: Ancient Trails & Old Manali Vibes Upon arrival and check-in, start your
trip by immersing yourself in Manali’s spiritual and natural roots. Head
straight to the Hadimba Devi Temple, an ancient wooden sanctuary nestled
in a dense cedar forest (Van Vihar), dedicated to the wife of Bhima from the
Mahabharata. Just a short walk away is the Ghatotkach Tree Temple, which adds
to the mystical atmosphere. For lunch, cross the Manalsu River into Old
Manali, a backpacker’s paradise. Enjoy a meal at iconic spots like Cafe
1947 or The Lazy Dog, where the river rushes right beside your
table. Spend your afternoon walking up to the Manu Temple, the only
temple in India dedicated to the sage Manu, walking through traditional village
homes. As evening falls, descend to the Mall Road to feel the pulse of
the town, shopping for Kullu shawls and enjoying a hot Gulab Jamun or Trout
Fish dinner at a local restaurant.
Day
2: High Altitude Thrills (Solang & Atal Tunnel) Dedicate your second day to the raw
power of the Himalayas. Start early to beat the traffic and head to Solang
Valley, the hub for adventure sports like paragliding, zorbing, and ATV
rides. Even if you aren't an adrenaline junkie, the cable car ride offers
breathtaking views. From here, drive through the Atal Tunnel, an
engineering marvel that transports you from the lush green Kullu valley to the
rugged, barren beauty of the Lahaul valley in just minutes. Visit Sissu,
a small town on the other side, to see the frozen waterfall (seasonal) and the
distinct change in landscape. Note: If you wish to visit Rohtang Pass (Snow
Point), you must book a permit online in advance, and it is closed on Tuesdays.
Return to Manali in the evening and unwind with a warm, hearty bowl of Thukpa
to combat the mountain chill.
Day
3: Healing Waters & Heritage
On your final day, focus on relaxation and heritage before your departure.
Drive to the village of Vashisht, famous for its natural hot sulfur
springs. Taking a dip in the public baths or the private Turkish-style baths
here is believed to have medicinal properties and is incredibly relaxing. If
you have energy for a short trek, the hike to Jogini Waterfalls starts
from here and takes about 45 minutes, rewarding you with a stunning view of the
valley. Alternatively, if you prefer history, visit the Naggar Castle
(on the way to Kullu), a historic wooden palace that offers panoramic views of
the Beas River and houses the Nicholas Roerich Art Gallery. End your trip with
a final authentic Himachali meal—try the Siddu with ghee—before boarding
your bus or taxi for the return journey.
